Associative Custom symbols in drafting mode. NX6

Associative Custom symbols in drafting mode. NX6

(OP)
I recently found the wide range of useful symbols you can attach to a 2D drawing. This is in the Insert > custom symbols dialogue. Please note the following questions relate to NX version 6.

I'm having difficulty placing the symbol on the drawing. Once you have chosen the symbol you need  (for example a dowel symbol) there is a random anchor point (maybe the centre of the view you're in??) that is created. Using the locate origin command the anchor can then be pinned to the centre of an existing circle. However, when you click to locate, it does not snap to the centre selected!!!

How are symbols centred accurately & in a way that ensures associatively?

As a further question (seems simple...) how do you set up an associative point in the sketcher mode in drafting??? (from which you can make some annotations as required..)

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the pointers but I still don't understand how to complete the command and place the symbol where I want it on the centre of existing geometry. If you click to place the symbol after having defined the point it is not correctly on the centre.

I'm obviously doing something wrong but the usual way to confirm a command is to place & left click...

The point constructor option in the origin tool will get what you want. Using this option, it associates the symbol to the point you select and moves the symbol to that point.

When you get the initial 'random' anchor point, the symbol has been associated to that view. The symbol will keep its relative position to the view when the view moves but you can drag the symbol around to whatever location you desire. The horizontal, vertical, and X,Y options will associate a symbol to text and the point constructor associates it to the geometry of your choosing.

It has been a while since I worked on "symbols" but I believe what I did was to put the WCS where I wanted the origin to be, and that (somehow?) made things easier for me.
