Combined shear and Tension in Anchor Bar

Combined shear and Tension in Anchor Bar

Combined shear and Tension in Anchor Bar

(OP)
Hi Folks

Simple question. I have a situation where I am using a reinforcement bar anchored into rock to prevent a apron slab from uplift due to uplift from Hydro pressure. The same anhor will also be used to resist sliding of this apron slab due to a dynamic force from flowing water>

So the anchor is in shear and tension. What formula or rule of thumb would you use or do you use to see that the combined shear and tesile stresses in the bar are within bar capacity?

I design mosly to Eurocodes and British Standards,  and cannot find a definite answer for this scenario

Cheers

RE: Combined shear and Tension in Anchor Bar

I think ACI 318 recommends (Tu/phi*Tn)^5/3 + (Vu/phi*Vn)^5/3 < 1.0
