shallow shell theory

(OP)
I recently encountered a problem in compress where a nozzle with "WNRF flange and pipe" on hemispherical head failed because of deficiency error of shallow shell theory.
I would like to know what is the shallow shell theory and what parameters compress uses to calculate the nozzle openings based on shallow theory on hemispherical heads.
My query is very general at present but i can provide complete details on the same.

RE: shallow shell theory

Refer to the Appendices in Welding Research Council bulletin 107.
