RTU

RTU

(OP)
hi

i have to size the cables going to an RTU panel. what typical signals would go to this RTU panel. i am not familiar with the RTU panels. any help would be appreciated

RE: RTU

I can't tell you what's going to your RTU.  You need an I/O count.

The RTU's I dealt with (goes back some years) had a handful of analog signals, 4-20mA or 1-5Vdc on twisted pair shielded cables, maybe a couple switch dry contacts on the same type of cable. The application was for data collection, not for any control outputs, but RTUs typically have output capability.

The collective output from the RTU was either a telephone cable for a POTS modem or a serial cable (RS-485) that ran to a radio set.

Some RTU's were battery/solar powered, some were powered from DC supplies.

The one I used had a DB9 port for RS-232 configuration/setup
