Pipe Cold Expanding

Pipe Cold Expanding

Pipe Cold Expanding

(OP)
Hello Friends,

We've got 24", ERW pipes which were manufactured by Cold Expanding.

Now the Bending Company is saying that they can not Guarantee that the Bends are going to have the same Yield Strength as the Parent Pipe does.

I want to get some ideas and comments about the subject before going to discuss it with the company.

I really appreciate the help.

RE: Pipe Cold Expanding

If the pipe is being free issued to the (induction?) bending company what is there to discuss?  Since they did not order the pipe, they don't want to guarantee the properties.  Bear in mind the following:

1.  It's not usual to cold expand HFW pipe.  If it has been cold expanded then, most likely, it will have elevated the mechanical properties to a level that won't be matched during bend manufacture.

2.  Bending will impart one or more heat treatment cycles to the pipe which clearly make it difficult to rematch the mother pipe.

Is the issue one of the bend manufacturer not being able to hit the specified minimum property values?

David,
Thanks a lot.
It seems we have a few homeworks to do before confirming any thing.
