Fatigue and Damage Tolerance of Composites

Fatigue and Damage Tolerance of Composites

Fatigue and Damage Tolerance of Composites

(OP)
I am familiar with DaDT of composites in general, via working on production programs.  There are some good references such as Mil-17 that I am also familiar with.  However, I am looking to further improve my knowledge in this area and would like some advice on good resources, etc.

Thanks for the help.

RE: Fatigue and Damage Tolerance of Composites

Hi Brian

one collection of research works in the field is
"Fatigue in composites" CRC Press - edited by Bryan Harris

Cpinz,

Thanks.  Wow, that is an expensive book.  Maybe I can borrow it first.

Let me better qualify my intent.  I have several books and many technical papers on fatigue and DT.  The problem is that many of them are TOO technical.  I am looking for the most "accepted" results and approaches.  My end goal is to create a chapter on fatigue and DT of composites for book that I am working on.  It will be a relatively short chapter, but I want to at least introduce the concepts and basic approaches, results.  However, I want to stay away from any too specific, technical, or controversial.

Brian,

Your best bet is to get the Rev G drafts of the Mil-17 Volume 3 DT chapter.  It has been extensively rewritten and expanded since Rev F.  Supposed to be officially published by the end of next year.  Or you can attend the next meeting and get access to the current working draft.

SW,

Thanks again.  I heard that Rev G had a lot of improvements so I am curious.  I should be able to make the next meeting, barring any unforseen events.  Mostly, I want to make sure I am not overlooking any good resources.  This is an area that I have identified as lacking in my understanding so I want to address it early on.

Worst case scenario, I can just address the basic principles without going into too much detail.  CAI is probably a good topic to spend some time on though.  Outside of this, it is a bit out of the scope and perhaps can be improved in a later edition.

You want reference books so that you can quote them in your book. What a wonderful piece of literature.
