Modeling A Knife Cutting Through Cheese

Modeling A Knife Cutting Through Cheese

Modeling A Knife Cutting Through Cheese

(OP)
Hi,

I am trying to model a blade cutting through some material, lets say cheese for example.  So far I have my model set up as the knife being a rigid body, and the cheese being a block, which I partitioned into three vertical sections.  The middle section, where the blade will go through, I have set as cohesive with continuum response.  The two end sections are set as solid homogenous.  The entire block of cheese is set as the same material with young's modulus and poisson's ratio refined.  I have the knife positioned directly over the cohesive section, set to strike down through the cheese with a constant velocity (I am trying to measure the force on the blade as it cuts through).

Is this going to work?  Is cohesive the right section type for this?  I am unsure if I am on the right track or not and I don't really know where to go from here.  For the initial step I have a predefined field for the blade (downward velocity) and appropriate BCs to keep the block held stable and knife cut straight down.  Do I need to define other parameters, such as surfaces or contact interations?  Also, I am unsure how to set up the second step.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
