Visualizing Heat-Expansion

Visualizing Heat-Expansion

Visualizing Heat-Expansion

(OP)
Hello!
I have following problem: I simulated the temp. behavior of a satellite (time dependent). Now I want to visualize also the expansion/deformation due to temp-differences.

Therefore I defined for my material also expansion coefficient. But I do not succeed in showing any displacement/expansion.

Which variables do I have to use for fieldoutput? COORD,MOT?

I was now searching for an hour here and with google, but did not find a solution for this perhaps to simple problem.

Thank you a lot for your help. Without, I did not get that far

by the way: I use a heat-transfer step.

RE: Visualizing Heat-Expansion

A heat transfer step solves for temperature, not displacement. You want *static.

ok, but if I have already heat-transfer steps, I cannot build up any static step...?

So my problem is: how can I include in the same simulation from my heat transfer the expansion?

RE: Visualizing Heat-Expansion

Search the ABAQUS manual for "sequential thermal stress" methodologies.

RE: Visualizing Heat-Expansion

Use the same model and save it as something else. Then delete the heat transfer step and replace it by *static and modify your boundary conditions for restraints. Add in a predefined field from the temperatures stored in the odb and create the inp file, and run it.

Hey Coros: That's like I did it in the evening. But I was forced to leave the room and therefore could not give my actual status.

That far it also works, problem: The expansion is 0 for 0 Kelvin, but not for my reference Temperatur (given in Material constants).

Normally the movement of the nodes should be 0 for my reference value I thought?

Thanks till so far!
