Runtime Error when trying to Open SW 2010

Runtime Error when trying to Open SW 2010

Runtime Error when trying to Open SW 2010

(OP)
When I try to install SW 2010 I get a message that tells me Visual Studio 2005 has stopped working and the installation does not complete.  Has anyone else had this issue and figured out a fix?

This has happened since I did a complete uninstall of SW b/c it stopped opening due to a runtime error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Natan

Did your complete uninstall include clearing out your registry? You may need to unistall VS 2005 and reinstall, as well as a clean install of SW to get back on track.
If you're on subscription, check out the knowledge base to see if there's anything there, or contact your VAR.

Thanks, Jeff.  I did do a complete uninstall including cleaning out the registry.  I also did a repair install of Windows 7.  Instead of getting the runtime error now, I just can't install SW.  I will try a reinstall of VS 2005 x86 as well and update along with a clean install of SW 2010.

Some good news and some bad news.  After doing the repair install of Windows 7 and a complete reinstall of SW 2010 Premium, I can now open SW, but when opening it I get a message that says: "SolidWorks database is missing. Complete functionality will not be available."  I am also not able to access the Toolbox (smart fastners) even though I installed it during the reinstall.

Anyone ever had this message and/or issue?

Thanks,
Natan

I fixed it.  I had to do a complete reinstall of Windows 7 as opposed to just a repair install and then a complete reinstall of SW 2010.  I'm not sure what the true problem was, but I suppose it resided somewhere deeper in Windows than I could confidently navigate.

For anyone in a similar situation, I run SolidWorks 2010 with Windows 7 via Parallels on a Mac Pro.  My biggest concern was that by doing a total reinstall I would lose the ability to communicate b/w the Mac OS and Windows 7.  It was really easy to restore communication by simply reinstalling the Parallels tools and then re-sharing the folders needed in both systems.

Anyhow, I wish I knew a better way than reinstalling Windows 7, so if anyone has a more efficient means, please post for future reference.

Nate
