Layers constantly changing with imported model

Layers constantly changing with imported model

Layers constantly changing with imported model

(OP)
Hi everyone,

I regularly use 3D models from tool suppliers, available from their respective websites, and modify them as required for special situations. There has never been a problem until recently. A boring bar I needed was unavailable on the 'net, but the supplier was kind enough to email me an early release of the model.
My problem is that my Model History objects are constantly reverting to layer 21 (sketch).
I started with the basics: datum on layer 61, sketches on layer 21, solids on layer 1. I never see when it happens, but at least three times now, when I am editing the component in-context with the parts that will be machined by said tool, all the objects in the Model History move to layer 21. At least if the objects would reformat to layer 1 I would see it within the assembly when using the Model Reference Set.

What might be doing this? Is there a way to lock a layer to an object?

I'm on NX7.0.0.9 32-bit. All models supplied have been imported as STEP203 files into new model files.

RE: Layers constantly changing with imported model

First thing to do is update to a newer MP of NX7. You are on the initial release, which from past experience, always has minor bugs in it that get fixed in the MPs.

I guess that's an option. We've been sitting on v7.5 for a while now.
Isn't 7.5.1 or 7.5.2 being released fairly soon?

RE: Layers constantly changing with imported model

Are you using "Assemblies" for your files?
If so then rmc (right mouse click) on a component in the tree > properties > "assembly" tab > "layer option" change to "original Layer"

RE: Layers constantly changing with imported model

I've seen this happen with the unite feature. If the tool body is on a different layer and somebody unites the solid body to the tool body (instead of the other way around), your solid body will now reside on the other layer.
