Did we lose Windows right-click "Solidworks" menu with 2011?
Did we lose Windows right-click "Solidworks" menu with 2011?
(OP)
For renaming a few parts and not losing the links, I just right-click in WINDOWS explorer and choose Solidworks > Rename instead of cranking up SOLIDWORK explorer.
We just upgraded to 2011 and that feature is no longer available. Actually we have 1 person who has Windows XP and has that capability, but the rest of us running Win 7, 64 bit don't have "Solidworks" in the right-click menu.
I'm not sure if this is a Win 7 problem or a Win 64 bit problem. Is anybody else who is running Win 7, 64 having this problem or do you have that menu?

RE: Did we lose Windows right-click "Solidworks" menu with 2011?
I saw the same thing after I removed Beta2 2011 from my computer in my SW 2010. The problem seems to happen after a SW version is removed, whether its a newer or older version of SW that is removed. Reinstalling SW 2010 fixed my problem. I would bet if you reinstalled your 2011 that would fix the issue. I have not found a registry setting that will fix it and resetting the SW settings will not fix it.
SW does not acknowledge that this is a problem. I tried for weeks, but they refused to admit that is a problem.

I had the same problem. Shows up after I un-installed SW2010.
All I needed to do was a "Repair" on my 2011..

Repair will work only if you did not install using an Admin image.. I have been using an admin image for so long I forgot about the repair option... that would be what you should try versus a reinstall... My apologies.
Would be a great enhancement if SW would give users with an Admin image the ability to use the "repair" option.

smcadman: Being the active CAD admin here at Berry Plastics I am well versed in this process. An upgrading an Admin image is not the problem, that is easy, upgrade the admin image then send your users the link and they install it or in some cases the IT Admin can push it out via Microsoft Active Directory. If you install it via the DVD or the download, you simply download the SP and install it on your local machine.
This problem that is occurring (per the initial question) usually happens in 2010/2011 if an older version is removed and if you have an install that was done via the Admin image then you can do a repair. If you have an admin image you have no choice but to uninstall and reinstall. The Add & remove programs gives the users with local installs the option to "Change" the install. Admin images local installs only get the "Remove" option.
