Bearing replacement falsework

Bearing replacement falsework

Bearing replacement falsework

(OP)
I am a senior in college and for my groups senior design project we are doing repairs on a bridge.  For the jacking system we are going to be using a 150ton jack on top of some false work.

So, my question is: what should i use under the false work to support the false work from sinking into the ground once it has the weight of a bridge section on top of it (143ton)

the black area are typical area of where the false work will be erected

RE: Bearing replacement falsework

Depends on the load, but possibly timber crane mats and/or steel street plates.

However, this site isn't for students so you may have this thread deleted.

Well, if this is deleted so be it, i just hope my account wont be as I'll be graduated and working in less than a month.

I was already looking up crane pads and they seem to be what I need.

Thank-you PEinc for confirming my suspicions.

RE: Bearing replacement falsework

Crane pads are not the same as crane mats.  Crane mats (often called deck mats) can often be about 4 or 5 feet wide by 1 foot thick by 20 to 30 feet long.  Crane pads are usually smaller in order to support crane outrigger pads.  My web site may have a few pictures of bridge jacking.  Are you at Drexel?

RE: Bearing replacement falsework

In this part of the world they often use railway sleepers.

Just make sure thay dont use thin scaffold boards.
