Rotordynamics software

Rotordynamics software

Rotordynamics software

(OP)
Hello everyone, as you can tell by the title, i need some help on finding a good rotordynamics FEA software that I can use. I am currently working on a gas turbine project and I am responsible for all the vibrational analysis of the turbomachinery. I am using ANSYS for some of the rotordynamics analysis but I need to verify my results using an FEA software. I am currently using ROTORINSA but that only handles lateral vibrations (unless im mistaken).

I apologise in advance if there is another thread that covers the same topic.

Thanks

RE: Rotordynamics software

Look at Comsol. It can certainly handle rotordynamics.
I sometimes use Comsol for similar situations.

Thanks FeX32!! I apologise but I am unfamiliar with the software. I assume that its structural mechanics module has Rotordynamics capabilities? If so how user friendly is it?ANSYS is pretty good, but I seem to have trouble including whirl in my rotor analysis. I think it requires command inputs which i still have no knowledge of. Thats why I am looking for another software that can help me check my FEA analysis while i figure out ANSYS.

Thanks again

RE: Rotordynamics software

You are welcome. No need to apologize. I am not an expert in rotor dynamics. My specialty is related, indirectly.
I have done many verifications with Comsol Multiphysics, but whirl is not one of them.
The good thing about comsol is that you can add script or write the precise DE you need solved in a domain. So it is kind or customizable. And it is quite user friendly.
I suggest checking it out, or asking their tech support if they have precisely what you are looking for. They answer swiftly.
Sorry I can't help you more.

RE: Rotordynamics software

Analyzing rotor dynamics with FE systems is not straightforward. (But then, what is?)
Solving rotor dynamics (whirling) require operating on non-symmetric matrices, which requires SW that can handle that. (I'm not that familier with ANSYS, so I couldnt tell if ANSYS has that option) It usually also implies non-linear damping.

Sorry for the late reply. Got caught up with other work. I decided to contact ANSYS tech support with all the questions I have. Hopefully they will get back to me soon with all the limitations of ANSYS regarding vibration analysis.

Thanks guys for all the help. Really appreciate it.
