natural gas output?
natural gas output?
(OP)
Using an old ingersol rand 5-stroke gas compressor. Machine only puts out 20psi above suction pressure. Why? Trying to pack 14mile 6" pipeline to 600psi. Max discharge output of compressor is 430psi,but (new gages)show an increase to 480psi over a 4 hour period. How is this possible? If discharge pressure is below pipeline, how can the pipeline pressure rise? Gas disch. temp at 54f.Flow rate shows 880mcf on silversmith program. I need answers, please.
Thank you
Thank you

one cooler.
RE: natural gas output?
A single stage, air cooled recip can do about 4-4.5 compression ratios. It is a positive displacement machine, meaning that every stroke (as long as it is in good working order) will discharge a fixed volume.
I just can't make any sense out of the statement "Max discharge output of compressor is 430psi,but (new gages)show an increase to 480psi over a 4 hour period." If the compressor discharge is really 430 psi, then it is not discharging into 480 psi. Not happening. You have a serious misunderstanding of the process. If the pressure is in fact going up above the actual compressor discharge, then some other machine with a higher discharge pressure than 480 psi is doing it.

RE: natural gas output?
The reason the line only increased 60 psi is because you added 50 mscf to the line over 4 hours which equates to 300 mscfd flow rate.

It almost has to be a "5-inch stroke", but he said it had "5 pistons", maybe 4 cylinders and an extra piston laying on the skid as a spare?
BCS,
Running the mfg program would be the least of this guy's problems.

RE: natural gas output?
it is obvious you are not knowledgeable of what is transpiring at the facility, so how do you expect us to answer your questions. we simply cannot answer your questions based on the information you provided.
i can provide an answer, but that is guesswork, which does you nor others reading these postings any good.
a guess for you to think about . . . are you sure the compressor bypass valve is closed?
another guess . . . are the compressor valves properly installed in the compressor cylinder and function properly?
good luck and learn to provide useful information so others can assist you.
