Disappearing sketch lines

Disappearing sketch lines

Disappearing sketch lines

(OP)
I am new to Solidworks so bear with me a little.  I recieved an evaluation disk of Solidworks 2001 from a co-worker so I can try it out.  Everything seems to work just fine except, while sketching the part in 2D, the lines disappear from the sketch.  What is strange is they disappear very random, sometimes a few lines, sometimes a block area, and sometime the whole sketch.  If I re-size or zoom in, the sketch reappears.  As soon as I dimension or click on the sketch it is gone again.  Other people have tried this Solidwork 2001 Evaluation with no problems like this.  Maybe I have some problem in my set-up or somthing.  Thank you in advance for any info.

Make sure you have the latest and greatest driver for your video card.

RE: Disappearing sketch lines

This can be caused by a lot of things Graphics card you are using, amount of RAM, Virtual memory settings, OS.

You can try these settings in SW first:

1) Open SW without opening a file or making a new one and check or uncheck "Use Software OpenGL" Located in Tools\Options\System Options

2) Once you have created a new part Go to Tools\Options\Document Properties\Image Quality Turn that way down. Then save it as your Primary Template (See help on Templates)

3) Stop using Lined Models, stay with Shaded models. SW works better with Shaded models than with Lined Models.

Other than that you are going to need to list your hardware before I can make any other suggestions.

RE: Disappearing sketch lines

Not only the video drivers affect this, but also the type of video card you have.  SW seesm to be a bit picky when it comes to working with various cards.  The best thing to do is to make sure you are using an "approved" video card.  A listing of them can be found on the SolidWorks web site.

"The attempt and not the deed confounds us."

RE: Disappearing sketch lines

I just saw this in another forum which may help.  It has seem to fix a few problems with certain cards, that are not "approved by SW" in my company.

Lower your acceleration down to the second lowest setting.
To get to this setting right click on your desktop and goto properties, settings, troubleshooting, then drag the slider down to the second lowest setting.

Hope this works.
