adequate pipe support?

adequate pipe support?

adequate pipe support?

(OP)
check out the photo, anybody care to comment on the adequacy of this pipe support?

RE: adequate pipe support?

I think that's BigInch's back yard irrigation system somewhere in a sunny country. As the "support" grows, it perforates the pipe to provide a gentle shower for the plants below.

RE: adequate pipe support?

This is nothing unusual to me; just another example of plant piping design.

Regards,

SNORGY.

RE: adequate pipe support?

This is a typical process "plant" pipe support in third world countries. The support appears to be "rooted" to the ground so should not be unstable. Not too sure about what friction factor you would adopt or what the support stiffness is likely to be, however the plant support does not seem to be dis-stressed.

RE: adequate pipe support?

That is a perfect example of recently evolved plant intelligence of the genus cacti.  Plant intelligence has been extensively utilized over the past 5000 years by corn, which has finally managed to get man to spread its seeds from one little remote garden plot to almost completely around the entire globe today.  Now, with the ever increasing shortages of water, cacti seem to have found out that water is commonly conveyed in pipelines and if you have noticed, the thorns are becoming harder and harder every day.  Soon I believe they will be able to penetrate most pipe wall thicknesses and finally have gotten us to deliver water to them no matter where they have chosen to grow.

You can tell that it is not one of my cactus pipe supports because I prefer sequaros.  They provide a structure that is obviously much more suited to supporting pipelines.

How much for the arrowhead down in the lower right corner?

RE: adequate pipe support?

Looks to be unrestrained support suitable to compensate thermal expansion. Is there any patent on that?

RE: adequate pipe support?

The thorns do provide some restraint... at least on me.
The patent is held by Mother Nature Inc.
