Hi everyone,

Currently assigned to check the capacity of a steel structure where a new fan (weight of fan = 2100lb, engine = 750lb, pulley guard = 500lb, unit basis = 850lb)will be installed.

What are the main steps for the check.
 
Any tips is appreciated

Did you do a search for "Floor Vibration" or "Slab Vibration" to see if there were any helpful previous posts?

Yes I did (found :Checks for frequency and acceleration)but still confused because it is the first time to deal with kind of checks where not all the fan weight will cause the vibration.

Are you checking for "capacity" per your first post?  Or are you checking against vibration (per your title)?

AISC Design Guide 11 "Floor Vibrations due to Human Activity" would be a good place to start regarding vibrations of floors. I can't comment to much because I have never gone through to perform this type of investigation.

It is the case where a vibrating machine (7'x7') will be installed on greeding floor supported by beams and girders.
I have to check for the capacity of the structure.

Normally one would investigate or ask from the vendor the typical cyclical loads imparted by their machinery to akin structures supporting it. If not giving equivalent static loads able then to forfeit the dynamical aspects singlestep- you could use their input as dynamical loading function/s for an analysis in SAP 2000.

Modern installations of mechanical equipment include vibration isolators, designed to prevent transmission of equipment vibration into the structure. These are typically designed by the equipment manufacturer. Neoprene pads can effectively reduce the transmission of high-frequency vibrations, such as those produced by a running motor. However, they are ineffective at preventing transmission of low-frequency vibrations such as jolts created when a motor starts and stops. Springs are needed to handle that type of action.

For you particular project as you can see we will need a lot more information starting at the frequencies of all parts of the model, natural of the supporting structure and forcing of the equipment.

The provided data is the weight of the equipments as size as given above. Also the 1120 rpm for the fun.
