Dished head

(OP)
I have a customer's spec. asking for a Magnetic particle test to be performed on the external surface of dished heads in the knuckle radius. I am using a 16" elliptical head with a 2" S.F. Is this head considered to be a dished head and if so, should it have been done by the manufacture.

RE: Dished head

It is not done as a standard practice by the head manufacturer. But is available upon request; at an additional charge.

RE: Dished head

MP or LP is must required as per ASME depends on the MOC

RE: Dished head

Yes, an elliptical head is considered "dished".  The MT is for forming 'tears' in the stretched area of the outside of the knuckle.
