Catch Basin Frame and Cover Ductility

Catch Basin Frame and Cover Ductility

Catch Basin Frame and Cover Ductility

(OP)
Hi guys,

We recently completed some work where the catch basin frame and covers installed by the contractor did not meet our ductility spec, but met all other specs. Our ductility percentage was about 3.7% when our spec is 12%. I understand that the frame and covers are more brittle than they should be, but we have had them sitting in the ground for 2 years or so and no issues have arisen. We are seeking an extended warranty from the Contractor, but i guess what i am asking is what could happen due to the frame and covers not meeting the ductility specifications? Basically what is "failure" due to the frame and covers being too brittle?

Thanks

RE: Catch Basin Frame and Cover Ductility

sidman69 - the easy answer is to have the contractor replace the grate and frame.  It did not meet spec.  Or have the contractor/mfr. provide test data regarding their product.

Hi gbam, i should have ellaborated a bit more. I've only been here less than a year and this project was completed back in 2007. It was a design-build and the owner is eager to get all deficiency items dealt with. Ideally we would want them replaced , but there are numerous other areas in the City where the same CB frames and covers have been used and no issues have occured.

RE: Catch Basin Frame and Cover Ductility

I assume that the grate and frame are precast from a mfr., correct?  Take a look at the mfr. specs for information and maybe contact them directly.  Other than that i am not sure how to proceed.  We have welded str. steel grates and frames here.
