Suggested Ways to Model Transition

Suggested Ways to Model Transition

Suggested Ways to Model Transition

(OP)
Hi NX'rs,

I'm attempting to model a component that has a little bit of transition curvature & twist to it.  Additionally, the twist & transition has to go from thin to thick area (or vice versa).

I attached a screen shot for reference.  In this model, I'm attempting to remodel it, making a cleaner parametric model, than the original.

Thanks again...

Wow, that's a pretty bad image you've got there; you might get better tips if you upload a little clearer image of what you're working with...

Hi Potrero,

Believe or not, that is how the actual part looks now.  The previous modeler did a hack job to create this model & now I'm attempting to make a "cleaner & more parametric" model of this same part.

Originally, the previous modeler imported a bunch of splines & modeled away with sheet bodies defining curvatures, transitions, etc. Surprisingly, the model was fairly accurate, but because it's not parametric, it's extremely difficult to modify, without having other features blow up.

The image you see is the image of the actual CAD file.

Thanks

I think he means the image is really tiny and hard to see what is going on. Can you take a larger screenshot and post it as a jpg file? (not all users have your version of Word, I'm sure)

RE: Suggested Ways to Model Transition

Try looking at the swept function, or through curves/through curves mesh function. Create, with an offset to each other, datum planes, on which you place the fully constrained sketches on. Use them as guide/section strings for these functions.  I will post a sample if i find some spare time today.

RE: Suggested Ways to Model Transition

We also had some free form training this year, at the end of the 3 days course we had to take a real life example to class and tried to model it in NX. I had a fork from a well known Swedish store. Att. my rough attempt (had to less time to make everything parametric).

Best regards,
