Creating Multiple Holes Of The Same Size Within The Same Command

Creating Multiple Holes Of The Same Size Within The Same Command

Creating Multiple Holes Of The Same Size Within The Same Command

(OP)
Beginner, Using CATIA V5R18;

I would like to know if you can create multiple holes of the same size within the same command, or does CATIA allow you to create only one hole per command?

Any response will be greatly appreciated!

RE: Creating Multiple Holes Of The Same Size Within The Same Command

You can use patern command.

Using a pattern command requires 2 commands. I would like to know if I can use the hole command to make more than one hole?

That's right. If you want 1 command write a macro with all your data.

I guess technically, you can make a sketch and sketch as many holes as you want into the thing.  But you are still then going to turn that sketch into a cut.

In fact.  there is nothing I can think of in Catia or Pro-E (which are the only 2 3d programs I know) that actually does much of anything with just one command.

Just curious, how do you want to define the multiple holes? What is it you want to do? You can doubleclick on the hole feature and define the size and then place it multiple times or you can drag and drop a hole in the 3d space, remember to hit ctrl to get a copy.

I would like to;

1. Hit the "Hole" feature once
2. Create 2 holes with 2 sketch points
3. 2 holes created under one feature
4. If I look in the part tree, I will see only "Hole.1" & not "Hole.1" & "Hole.2"

RE: Creating Multiple Holes Of The Same Size Within The Same Command

The closet thing is Ferdo's suggestion with pattern.... but I still don't get why you want to have 2 holes in one feature??? If it is for sorting then there are other ways in Catia

RE: Creating Multiple Holes Of The Same Size Within The Same Command

If you are making a sketch anyways with the sketch points for locations, make the sketch with the holes you want and use the pocket command.  1 sketch, and 1 feature in part tree "Pocket.1"  I still think the pattern command is the best way to go.  Not sure what the issue is of having 2 features in the part body tree.

RE: Creating Multiple Holes Of The Same Size Within The Same Command

I have come to the habit of sketching a point everywhere I want a hole.  Then I put a hole on one point and do a user pattern and attach it to the sketch.
This gives the advantage that you can directly dimension the holes to other features just by showing the sketch. If you are used to the pro-e way of doing stuff you will find that this is much cleaner as you can go in and edit one sketch to change placement.
