Import Diagnostics

Import Diagnostics

Import Diagnostics

(OP)
I am on SolidWorks 2007 here.  I have imported an assembly STEP file, and one of the parts is showing errors.  According to the error window, I have six Check entity errors.

I cannot find anything that will provide more information on the errors.  The Import Diagnostic window under Tools, is grayed out.

Does anybody know what I can do?

RE: Import Diagnostics

Do you have FeaturWorks? That may help you out.

RE: Import Diagnostics

I think the errors have to be resolved before you can run featureworks.  Is this a part within an assembly that has the errors?  If so, you will have to open the individual part and try to run featureworks.  Also, instead of using the tools>import diagnostics function, try right clicking on the surface or feature with the error and see if import diagnostics is listed and not greyed out.

RE: Import Diagnostics

drawoh,

Have you created any features after the import operation?  If so, the import diagnostics will be unavailable.  Even the creation of reference geometry will cause the diagnostics to be grayed out.

IIRC, you can roll back to just after the import feature and then perform diagnostics.

RE: Import Diagnostics

Try saving the part as parasolid and reimporting. You might just get lucky.

If not, can you post the file here? Maybe one of us can fix it with a newer version and post back as a good parasolid.

RE: Import Diagnostics

I think jobiewan is on the right track; you have to drill down through the feature tree of the imported item to the atomic level, and fix each primitive, then work back through the assemblies on the way up.

I used to import complete Diesel engines in STEP files.  SW always had trouble with the helix that's part of the worm screw that's part of a hose clamp that's part of a hose assembly that's part of...

RE: Import Diagnostics

A lot of mis-direction being suggested.  Attach the original file here.

Here is offending file.  I imported a STEP assembly file, and this was one of the parts.  I have not modified it.  I have FeatureWorks turned on.

All the menus that look they would help me are turned off.

Please note again that I am on SolidWorks 2007.
