Creating section curves from faceted bodies in nx6
Creating section curves from faceted bodies in nx6
(OP)
I'm currently trying to recreate an aerofoil profile from a faceted body in NX6. I have a model file from a similar operation done previously, so have the history tree as a 'step by step' guide as to how the previous designer managed this.
From what I can see, datum planes have been set up at uniform intervals along the profile & the datum planes have been used to 'cut' the faceted body & leave a surface or edge. This surface (or edge) has then been used to apply a spline to, using the point on curve constraint for splines. Once this has been repeated at what is deemed suitable number of planes, mesh through curve has been used to create sheet bodies.
Unless I'm missing something fundamental at the section curves stage, NX6 will not allow me to pick the faceted body to section. Does anybody have any ideas?
Alternatively (if you've managed to decipher what I'm actually trying to do?!), is there any other way of creating a solid body or an exportable file (.stp?) from a faceted body that has been produced from GOM'ing (scanning). The GOM file is in .stl format.
Creating point sets & using these to create splines will be painstaking, as the look-a-like model has 20 odd thousand points, so if there is a less labour intensive way of getting the required result, it could save my sanity.
Cheers.

Insert -> Curve from Bodies -> Section...
...IF the 'Associative' option was toggled OFF.

I suggest to create point in section curve then fit splne function
I already done this kind of job on a faceted human face by this way.
