API 650 : Appilicability for Skid Mounted Tanks

API 650 : Appilicability for Skid Mounted Tanks

API 650 : Appilicability for Skid Mounted Tanks

(OP)
Hi,

We are doing a couple of Chemical Injection Packages viz. Anti-corrosion agent injection, anti-scalant agent injection which comprises of chemical storage tanks in 316L, metering pumps (as per API 675)etc.

The tank will he sized to hold chemicals for a week or two (sizes range from 2 m3 to 10 m3) but will be supplied mounted on a structural baseplate alongwith the injection pumps alongwith the interconnection piping.

Can anybody please explain whether API 650 can be applied for these storage tanks which are being mounted on steel structures as is the case (and not on concrete foundation with compacted soil)

Thanks.

RE: API 650 : Appilicability for Skid Mounted Tanks

API 650 is for flat-bottom aboveground tanks with uniformly supported bottoms.  They can be on soil or concrete foundations or on grillage.

RE: API 650 : Appilicability for Skid Mounted Tanks

I do not believe that there is any minimum size restriction contained within API-650

Check out Appendix I for spacing requiments of the beams on the skid and the required floor thickness of the tank.
