High tolerance ID pipe/tubing

High tolerance ID pipe/tubing

High tolerance ID pipe/tubing

(OP)
I am looking for seamless stainless steel pipe/tubing that has the ID very tightly controlled (+/- 1-10 thou or so on an ID of 1-2"). The other way to attain this is of course by reaming out standard pipe, but that's time and money. I'm hoping to at least take the time part out of the equation. Any suggestions, and where it can be obtained?
Thank you!

   Is this any help?

Well, I was more trying to get at what type of standard stainless steel tubing is held to that tolerance in that diameter range, so I don't have to go with a fully custom product. Like am I looking for DOM tubing, or some other kind... Someone's experience might be more helpful than Google.

RE: High tolerance ID pipe/tubing

Another approach is honed hydraulic DOM tubing or pipe. Team offers tolerances on the + or - side so they might be able to select some tubing to your specs.
Depending on the material required short runs get very expensive.
Since your ID tolerance extremely thought have you though about ovality or straightness.

Thanks guys. Is there such a thing as DOM stainless steel tubing, or do the properties of stainless not permit the DOM process? I haven't been able to find DOM stainless, just DOM carbon steel tubing.

RE: High tolerance ID pipe/tubing

May we ask why you require the stated accuracy in the OP?

Can you change your design to accommodate what's available?

All the DOM SS I've seen is in the large sizes and heavy wall.  SS doesn't lend itself very well to the DOM process.  Another thing is that the DOM process is not that accurate, this is why you see the honed version of DOM produced materials.

Here are two other sources that you maybe able to use if you don't need such tolerances.

RE: High tolerance ID pipe/tubing

Yes, DOM (drawn over mandrel) stainless steel tubes can be produced using either welded or seamless tubes as the initial product.  ASTM A1016 covers the general requirements for stainless steel tubes, with a variety of other ASTM standards used for more detailed requirements.  Use the following links for more info:
