SEL-351S Fault Locator Testing

SEL-351S Fault Locator Testing

SEL-351S Fault Locator Testing

(OP)
Has anyone come up with a solid method of proving the fault locator algorithm in the SEL-351.  I am thinking it should follow similar testing procedures as for distance relays but I am lost as to the equation I would used to get the actual distance and compare it to the relay's result in the SER.

RE: SEL-351S Fault Locator Testing

First off, the algorithm assumes a homogeneous line.  If you don't have a homogeneous line you'll never get as good of results as you would otherwise.

After that, SEL has published a great deal of material on the fault location algorithms they use.  Contact your local SEL field application engineer for further information.
