After info on the series of white metal alloys. In particular, the difference between the various grades, how 'brews' have developed over the years and physical properties (in particular, regarding thermal expansion).

Any links to resources or first-hand experience/knowledge would be much appreciated.

Thanks Arun. The last link in particular looks promising.

Adding a little more to the references by arunmrao.

I can remember a time where we were worried about temperatures or than the bearings that had the hottest environment had a cut off at 205°F. I believe they had warnings at 180°F

The Lindsay site has a good hands on book.  The Fry site has some detailed instructions.  The Roto Metals was good source for Babbitt metal.
