Electrical Panel Floor Clearance?

Electrical Panel Floor Clearance?

Electrical Panel Floor Clearance?

How much clearance is required in front of an electrical panel in an industrial setting?

RE: Electrical Panel Floor Clearance?

In Canada this is in the Electrical Code.

RE: Electrical Panel Floor Clearance?

What country are you in? In the U.S. this is covered in the NEC, Article 110.26.  Working space required depends on what is on the other side and voltage level.  There are also requirements for HEIGHT of working space as well as width.

For a typical 120/240V panelboard, you need three feet (900 mm in my 2002 NEC book!)

This means you can't use this space for anything, including storage.

If you have a more specific question, just let us know,

Thanks people.  I also have found the appropriate section in the Ontario Electrical Safety Code... Section 2-308 Working Space About Electrical Equipment.  I love these forums!...

RE: Electrical Panel Floor Clearance?

Suggestion: It depends on voltage levels, e.g. 5kV may need 3 feet with an empty space behind, 4 feet with conductive barrier, etc. Check NFPA 70-2002 NEC
