Flat Pattern Problem

Flat Pattern Problem

Flat Pattern Problem

(OP)
Hi All,

There is something I'm doing wrong - BUT WHAT!!

I'm trying to get a flat pattern of a Fan Case with a rolled flange at one end and a rolled cone at the other.  I've layed out the general outline of the case in Sketch mode and done a 359 deg. revolve under the Model tab but when I go to the Flat Pattern the flange and cone do not lay flat - WHY?

Best Rgds,
Dave R.

p.s. I'm fairly new here so I hope that the file uploads OK.

RE: Flat Pattern Problem

Because you used the wrong command.  You have to use Contour Roll.  If you are in Sheet Metal you cannot use the traditional modeling commands all the time.  Some can be used but there are rules for this sort of thing.  I would recommend getting a book on Sheet Metal from www.ascented.com

Hi mflayler,

Thanks for that, I new it had to be something simple, just couldn't see it.

Also thanks for the link, these are the types of literature that prove more useful than standard text books.  I've just completed a book by Thom Trmblay which, through the development of a product, showed one how to perform various tasks on an actual product.

Best Rgds,
Dave R
