Can someone provide me a reference or ideas for typical UCS (unconfined compressive strength) of various type of rock and also the typical bearing capacities of various rock for preliminary assessment.

If you have access to MJ Tomlinsons Foundation Design and Construction (edition that started putting in the Eurocode), it has a good section on foundations on rock - he's a practicing engineer - not a professorial type of text writer.
