Diferrence between Hide & Blank

Diferrence between Hide & Blank

Diferrence between Hide & Blank

RE: Diferrence between Hide & Blank

Nothing, they're the same function.

"Blank" was the old name, "hide" being the new name. I think it was renamed because "blank" didn't translate well into other languages.

NX 6.0.5.3
Windows XP32

RE: Diferrence between Hide & Blank

Actually we had no real problem translating "Blank" into other languages as long as you got past where in Spanish it might come out as "White" winky smile

No, it was "Unblank" where we had a problem.

"Unblank" is not a word in English or any other language.  If you never realized this, try opening a Word document and typing "unblank" and see what the spell-checker tries to do with that.  So if we can't even find "Unblank" in OUR dictionary how do we expect to find it in any of the OTHER dictionaries in the world?  English is a really great language when it comes to creating new words which everyone will understand.  After all, you won't find "UnCola" in the dictionary either, but we all know exactly what it means.  So even if we all KNOW what a particular made-up word means to US, it would still be ill-advised to insist on using it in a context where it HAD to be accurately translated, thus our change in terminology.

One last note, in a concession to reality, we decided to not mess up people any more than we had to (expect of course all the people who have only recently started using NX) so the keyboard shortcut for "Hide" is still 'Ctrl+B' winky smile

RE: Diferrence between Hide & Blank

I always assumed hide was just a display thing (do not show), while blank closes the feature (and creates update errors further down the list of features if used by those features).

RE: Diferrence between Hide & Blank

Its another chance for a topic in the UGS classes offered.

RE: Diferrence between Hide & Blank

A distiction should be made here...Immediate hide and hide do not behave the same.  Immediate hide sends the geometry to a place where it will never be seen again, unless the user uses ctrl+shift+u to unblank everything.  I toggle between what is hidden and shown by using ctrl+shift+blank, but the immediate hide objects don't show up when I toggle between the two...I'm on NX6

RE: Diferrence between Hide & Blank

I am on NX6 also, and "hide" and "immediate hide" work similar except that "immediate hide" is quicker when hiding one component at a time.
You really shouldn't use either "hide" or "immediate hide" to hide forever - there are better ways to do that.
