Seismic Tank Design

(OP)
Can anyone recommend a good Seismic Design Textbook for Tanks / Pressure Vessels? I need to start at the begining and not with a Handbook.  I have both Pressuve Vessel Books, Moss and Megyesy.  Thanks

RE: Seismic Tank Design

Seismic for tanks and vessels are handled differently as tanks need to take into account the impulsive and convective seismic responses.  For tanks have a look at API 650 Appendix E and EC.  For vessels the best reference would be the applicable building code for your site location (ie. NBC, IBC, ASCE).

You need to review the following:

Why Japan?  Is there any indication that the original poster is from there?

RE: Seismic Tank Design

Here are three papers with the required design information along with their references.  The last site has information on upcoming change to the the design criteria.  I didn't check to see if the other papers incorporated any of the changes.

RE: Seismic Tank Design

LSThill,
Cannot find "DESING RECOMMENDATION FOR STORAGE TANKS AND THEIR SUPROTS 1996 EDITION" you reference.

References should be correct!!! Otherwise no point in providing.

RE: Seismic Tank Design

The book "Aboveground Storage Tank handbook" by Phillip Meyers has a chapter on seismic design.

Mostly, it reviews the methodology contained in API-650

MJC,

Here is the ISBN number for the reference posted by [LSThill[/b].  A quick search didn't reveal anyone in the US that has the book. There is an English version (2004)

The IABN number is listed in both forms as shown below.
