I have performed a PQR on material grade ASTM A890: 5A (UNS J93404) in accordance with ASME IX (No problems) & NACE MR0175.
NACE MR0175 places restrictions on hardness values, however I can find no hardness value for this material listed.
Does anyone know the maximum permissable hardness value or failing that the European equivalent or Werkstoff number for this material?
I have looked at NORSOK MDS D56 Edition 5 - no hardness value again! However MDS D56 Edition 3 lists a maximum permissable hardness of 32HRC maximum! Should I use this as the maximum permissable? Your views would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

RE: ASTM A890: 5A

From ISO 15156-3, you will note that hardness restrictions are only placed on duplex and super duplex stainless steels as follows:

HIPped S31803
Downhole tubulars and packer equipment

Therefore, if your item is not a downhole tubular or for packer equipment, there is no hardness restriction for H2S service.

As a fall back option, consider the 310 HV10 average, 320 HV10 individual requirements indicated in NACE MR0103/API TR 938-C, then you will be safe for refineries as well!!
