NX Part family member changes

NX Part family member changes

NX Part family member changes

(OP)
Would anyone know the reason why you are able to modify a part family member (checked out) that is in Teamcenter, but not be able to save it back to Tc?

If you are unable to save it back to Tc, what would be some of the reasons why you would want to be able to modify the part?

Are there any changes that can be made to family members? Example: In Pro/E you can modify a family member to add a new feature...lets say a hole. When you open the family table of the generic, that hole feature is automatically added to the table and only active in the member you added it to (Y for that member, N for all other members). It would be suppressed in the generic. If you want to add the hole feature to any other family member, you just chnage the N to Y in the table for that member. Does NX have similar functionality or are you required to add the hole to the generic only and then set it in the table for the members?

Thanks

RE: NX Part family member changes

Parts that have been checked out to your workspace become modifiable parts. TCe permissions may prevent you from checking that modified part back in. Same applies to Windchill and Pro/E.

Family tables ion NX are a little different than they are in Pro/E. In Pro/E, the instances 'live' within the generic part file. In NX, the instances are releated to the generic, but exsist as independent part files on disk.

I haven't played with NX families except from the generic side and have any changes made propogate down to the instances. I would suspect that a change made to an instance will only be the instance of an NX part and not propogated to the generic like in Pro/E.
