STAAD using oil & Gas

Hi,

I am working Oil & Gas field using STAAD(Just now i am starting).

I don't know basic Load combination? Let me explain the concepts?

Can i get any tutorials for hand calculation of "bolt strength, plate check, weld checks(formula's) & etc"?

RE: STAAD using oil & Gas

What company do you work for? Fluor, Kbr, Jacobs, Worleyparsons, Bechtel, etc.. all have CSA specification you can use. I have a copy of some them and they all are basically the similar based on PIP.

Get a copy of Process Industry Practice (PIP) and Wind Load for Petrochemical Facilities.

RE: STAAD using oil & Gas

Your question is too vague.  You don't need any standards?   I suggest that you buy an elementary textbook on strength of materials, then determine which code or standard you are required to satisfy.  Load combinations should be specified in the code.

For websites, use Google.

RE: STAAD using oil & Gas

Norway? Are you onshore or offshore? Are you working for Aker?

Anyway, for onshore load combination and others you can use PIP standard as a guide.
Offshore i have no idea.

Plates, welds, bolts, etc.. whatever books you had in college. I presume you have a civil/structural engineering degree.

RE: STAAD using oil & Gas

Is this in a marine application for offshore floating oil rig structures?   If so, you may to check with or consult with a Naval Architect/Engineer type.

I was amazed at what Norway puts out for the cruise industry with their recent second 1200 foot long behemouth sister ship to the one launched last year.  An amazing engineering feat...  Including the 1 foot of clearance over its telescoping stacks to get it under a bridge over a norwegian fiord and out to sea.

RE: STAAD using oil & Gas

I just realized he cant be working for offshore industry because he is using Staad. Offshore use SACS.

RE: STAAD using oil & Gas

Ever heard of STAAD.Offshore? There is also a program named SESAM that they use for offshore structures.

Hi

Thx for your reply's.

Basically my bachelor is Mechanical Engg. & Master is Structural Mechanics.

I got onshore job in Norway.  I would like to study the Hand calculation relative to the STAAD and Structural.

So, give some text book details also.
