Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) Question
Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) Question
(OP)
I am doing a study on Polyacrylonitrile (PAN), a raw material used in the making of carbon fiber. I was wondering if anyone on the forum knew aproximately what percentage of a barrel of crude oil contributes to the production of PAN precursor? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

We use about 200,000,000+ lbs of AN per year in the manufacture of Adiponitrile (ADN) for the production of Nylon. This is just a drop in the bucket of AN total production in the US.
Check out this report. You will have to do a little work to get the oil production at anyone time to derive your number.

If this is very important you can use someone like SRI to give you a number at any specific time frame. This service doesn't come cheap.
