I am interested in the technology to join carbon steel (railroad rail) to manganese steel (a castings) using the flash butt weld process. Also any other welding process that can join these two steels reliably.

RE: Welding carbon steel to manganese steel

I work with Edison Welding Institute in Columbus, OH.  We have done significant work with flash butt welding.  I tried to forward your post to one of my collegues but something went wrong with the e-mail process.

If you would like some more information you should e-mail Tim Stotler.  Tim_Stotler@ewi.org
He would be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding this application.
