Modeling walls with Staad

Modeling walls with Staad

Modeling walls with Staad

(OP)
The wall has 2 different section, the lower one  is 2' thick supporting the upper one which is 1' thick.  The problem is that I try to have the wall face match each other so the lower wall will carry eccentric load from above.  How would you model this wall, what command in Staad do you use ??
Thank you..

RE: Modeling walls with Staad

Why do you need to model this by computer, working out the eccentricity and therefore stresses in the lower wall is very easy by hand!

RE: Modeling walls with Staad

Aun

To model the eccentric wall you may use a rigid horizontal element as shown below

        1
        1   > Upper 1' wall ( element )
        1
        1
-----   > Rigid element ( high thickness to obtain
    1                          rigidity)
    1
    1
    1       > Lower 2' wall ( element )
    1

RE: Modeling walls with Staad

first thing to do when using staad to model structure is to check your indemnity insurance as you may well need it!!!
Be careful.

RE: Modeling walls with Staad

May be you want to check the OFFSET command in Staad.  This allows you to move the axis of the connected members.  If yo are modeling a strip of the wall, this may be the most effective way.

RE: Modeling walls with Staad

best way is to model the structure with the offset in place and set up a master/slave node routine so that one set of nodes becomes dependent on the action of the other set of nodes.  These nodes will be the sets at the top and bottom of the walls in question.

Then follow the advice of ulfstein.!! and AJUK!!

Could you explain more how to model it??
I know offset command but i have no idea how to apply it to the wall.

TIA
