Shelf Angle Anchorage to Masonry Wall

Shelf Angle Anchorage to Masonry Wall

Shelf Angle Anchorage to Masonry Wall

(OP)
I am taking the PE Friday and my co-worker warned me about a problem he had.  They asked for the tension in the anchor of a shelf angle to a masonry wall.  Does anyone have an example of this type of problem?

RE: Shelf Angle Anchorage to Masonry Wall

A shelf angle fixed to a masonry wall to to support a veneer?

I would say the weight of the veneer (per anchor) by the eccentricity from the wall divided by the lever arm between the anchor and the centre of bearing.

All the best for the PE exam.

T=W*e/(lever_arm)

kikflip,

Thanks for the reply.  He said that at first he tried it using a lever arm measured between the anchor and the angle tip and no answer was close.  He then took the lever arm measured between the anchor and the centroid of the stress block of the masonry and got something close to an answer and went with that.  He took it twice and had one on each, so I wanted to verify with an example problem before the test day.

Thanks again!
