Design of steel beams with sap2000

Design of steel beams with sap2000

Hello!,I'm using the AISC-LRFD93 code for designing the steel elements. The problem is that even though the demand/capacity of the beams are below 0,85, the limit I personally use, when I look at the details information it appears a warning message saying KL/r > 200. This verification is for columns and bracers but not for beams, well that is what I learned. I even check the compresion values of the beams, and it is really low, around 1,5 KN. If anyone can explain this to me, please be my guest

RE: Design of steel beams with sap2000

Not sure about SAP2000, but in RISA you tell it whether you are analyzing a beam or a column.  If it is set to "column" and any compression shows up - you will get that message

Agree with Mike...you probably have a modeling input problem.  Check everything closely.

I already check, and the software is considering those items as bemas, so I got really confused. If anyone knows why this program does that please tell me. I already design those beams without taking into acount the KL/r problem, nevertheless I want to know why sap2000 does that.
