RE: 31.1 or ASME SEC I ???

Adding to vpl's response: Sec 1 is for power boilers.

Both codes include graphics that clearly define their jurisdiction.  Look around page 41 in Sec I and page 2 in B31.1.

RE: 31.1 or ASME SEC I ???

You can also reference the Section I Preamble and PG-58.

There is an overlap of the two codes in regards to Boiler External Piping, where B31.1 has technical jurisdiction while ASME I has administrative.

RE: 31.1 or ASME SEC I ???

juliomendez,

The main difference between the standard 31.1 and the ASME SEC I is one is about "small and fat and always boiling" (ASME Sec I), and another is about "round and very lo-o-ong" (B31.1).
Now, you won't be confused anymore.

Regards,

Curtis

RE: 31.1 or ASME SEC I ???

asme extends from the boiler to the first valve/weld outside the boiler where 31.1 takes over.
