DUAL TAILING LUG
DUAL TAILING LUG
(OP)
I have to check a lifting dual tailing lug that has also a stiffener beam inside the skirt for each lug. I have as references the D. MOSS manual and PV ELITE calculation sheets. My case is the "parallel beam struts" shown on D. Moss.
Taking the Kr values to calculate the bending moment on the base ring from Moss diagram, I noticed that these values are very dissimilar from the K values used in PV Elite calculation, I take it as the cases are different, one considering the stiffener beam and PV Elite for the lug alone, without the stiffener beam. Is my interpretation correct? If so, I'm surprised for the low moment obtained from Moss Kr values and also I don't know how to design the stiffener beam sectional area. About this last point I also saw the COMPRESS formulas, but it refers to a single stiffener beam, and uses deflection/ elongation considerations do not applicable, on my opinion, to my case (two stiffener beams).
If someone can help me, thanks in advance.
