Help saving a modified toolbox component to the vault

Help saving a modified toolbox component to the vault

(OP)
I have a Toolbox set screw component with detailed threads that I modified (I ground the threads off of half the length) Now I want to check it into the vault as a Solidworks Part, but my system won't allow toolbox components in the vault. Is there a best practice of how to deal with this, short of reconstructing it from scratch?

RE: Help saving a modified toolbox component to the vault

Tom,

There are two similar ways you can do this:
1. As an assembly with the Toolbox part as your only part and then a feature cut in the assy to achieve the desired shape.

2. As a new part, but inserting the Toolbox part as a Base Part followed with any feature cuts (and material additions if necessary).

You should then be able to save and check either of these versions into the vault since you have made a separate file (that just happens to link to the Toolbox setscrew).  Actually, option 2 is probably the better route to go since it represents what you are doing - making a new part (not assy) from a piece of standard hardware.

Tom,

You can use the sldsetdocprop utility (<install_dir>\SolidWorks\Toolbox\data utilities) to change the property that Solidworks uses to flag items as Toolbox parts:

1) Run sldsetdocprop.exe from the relevant directory
2) Choose the part (Add File) you want to check in to the vault
3) Select the radio button for Property State: No
4) Hit the "Update Status" button

You should now be able to check the part into your vault.
