Materials for roller shaft..

Materials for roller shaft..

Materials for roller shaft..

(OP)
Good Day,

I'm presently doing a data dictionary on Kiln Support Roller and Trust Roller and I need basically the materials being used for this Kiln parts.
1. Material Shaft for support roller
2. Material for support roller
3. Material for Thrust Roller

I attached here drawing for the parts so every one could understand..

Thanks

RE: Materials for roller shaft..

You will be hard pressed to get anyone to give you that information, especially for a specific brand kiln.
My experience from our 5 kilns has been that the replacement components are made form several different materials depending on the actual service.  Our kilns are low temperature but heavily loaded and most of our wheels are various forms of cast iron along with austenitic ductile iron.  We tried several approaches to improve the support roller and the only thing that helped was changing the shaft material on the rollers.  After many attempts to improve on the OEM components we went on to use a kiln service company like Phillips Kiln Company to service and supply the replacement parts.

The OEM or Phillips may tell you what they will supply as replacements.  There should be a material list from the original prints ans operating instructions.  The information will probably be contingent on getting an order.

unclesyd...thanks for the valuable info..you're right its hard to get info for this query, Actually Philips is a good company with respect to kilns specially the alignment services. But most of the parts in our unit were of KHD origin and our OEM docs does not disclose the material..

I think I have to prepare a purchase requisition to be able to get a good feed back for the materials..

But anyway, thanks again and good day.

RE: Materials for roller shaft..

I have produced wheels for such application in 4140 or 4340 grades. these were then flame hardened to improve the life. whilwe a few others continued using cast iron wheels and replaced them frequently. For shafts, I have seen most often EN24 grade material being suggested.

One of our local supplier here in the Philippines also informed me that there previous supplies were of Hardened SAE 4140 so I guess this will do..

Many thanks Sir arunmrao
