Disappearing Lines in Drafting; NX5

Disappearing Lines in Drafting; NX5

Disappearing Lines in Drafting; NX5

(OP)
When I go from modeling to drafting some of the lines that are part of my model do not show up.  For example if I am trying to make a drawing of a bolt assembly the line representing the edge of the bolt disappears from the bottom of the nut to the end that is chamfered.  Does this make sense?

Thanks in advance,

lurks

RE: Disappearing Lines in Drafting; NX5

Are you sure that your drawing is up to date ?

RE: Disappearing Lines in Drafting; NX5

(OP)
Yes, this is happening while creating it.

RE: Disappearing Lines in Drafting; NX5

Could you send a screenshot ?

RE: Disappearing Lines in Drafting; NX5

Does this only happen when zooming in?

Sometimes a part clean-up will fix it.

RE: Disappearing Lines in Drafting; NX5

I assume that you have interferring solid bodies.
You may need to use view dependent editing to fix that, which is not a terrible thing - just more work.

RE: Disappearing Lines in Drafting; NX5

What do you mean by that?

RE: Disappearing Lines in Drafting; NX5

Interferring solid > when one body is inside (even if slightly inside) another body, and it is confusing NX on what edges should be visible of not.

View dependent editing > you can make an edge (or curve) in a drawing view a differnt color, font, width than how it shows up in the drawing and it won't affect the model.
Edit > view > view dependent editing
It will take some practice when working with it for the first time. Just ask more questions on here if you need more help.
a tip: make all the hidden lines in that view dashed. Then view dependent edit the entities that you want solid (solid is a "font") - then when you make the dashed lines invisible the ones that you view dependently edited will stay the way you changed them.

RE: Disappearing Lines in Drafting; NX5

Try this...

Select the view where the curves are not being seen, press MB3 and select 'Style'.  Open the tab labeled 'Hidden Lines' and try selecting the options in the section of the dialog labeled 'Interfering Solids' and see if this solves the problem after you've regenerated the Drawing views

Thank you John, that worked perfectly.
