Determine the arc current

Determine the arc current

Determine the arc current

(OP)
We have the next question:

1.In a first software the arc current in the first upstream protective device is calculated in base to fault current that pass by protective device when happen the fault in the interest Bus downstream.

2.In a second software the arc current in the first upstream protective device (Ia br) is equal to arc current in the Bus (Ia) by percentage of the fault current passing through the protective device (IB br) and the fault current in the Bus (IB): Ia br = Ia*(IB br/IB).

What calculation is the correct for the arc current in the first upstream protective device?

RE: Determine the arc current

Hello,

And what is your main question?
Please clarify it!

RE: Determine the arc current

There are two different issues:

Current in the arc determines the energy released.

Current through the protective device determines duration of the fault.

These currents are not always the same.
