Gas Cabinet

Gas Cabinet

Gas Cabinet

(OP)
Forum,

What are requirements for having a sprinkler inside a gas storage cabinet, such as the type found in a laboratory?  The room itself is fully sprinklered.  I could not find anything specific in NFPA 45, 30 or 55 that requires a sprinkler.

Thanks.

RE: Gas Cabinet

Have not seen them in there and IFC does not appear to require them

Are we talking single cylinder cabinets???

RE: Gas Cabinet

Sometimes the gas storage cabinets, especially if it is a particularly hazardous or toxic gas are pre engineered with exhaust and fire suppression already installed with connections for building supply.

All you have to do is give it a pipe to connect to.

RE: Gas Cabinet

Where's the gas cabinet and what's it storing because it makes a big difference. In the IFC, the only time gas cabinets require automatic sprinkler protection is in Group H occupancies and only when it is storing flammable or pyrophoric gases.

Now if you're dealing with silane in concentrations > 1.37% V/Vair, CGA P-13 always prescribes sprinkler protection in any gas cabinet, including cabinets for lecture bottles.

RE: Gas Cabinet

The cabinets on my project dealt with had arsine, phosphine - of which I was told arsine will kill you in levels in ppb.

This is in a B occupancy.  I am awaiting an answer on what is going to be stored in the cabinet.
