How much does stress relieving cost?

How much does stress relieving cost?

How much does stress relieving cost?

(OP)
I have been trying to look into pricing for stress relieving and I can not find anything.  Do companies charge by the pound? by area? I already have the metal that I need to be stress relieved and would just like some advice

RE: How much does stress relieving cost?

This is perhaps a very broad questions. Many factors other than location or proximity to heat treat facility come into play. Some of these I shall try to highlight.

The batch quantity offered. Whether they are of odd size to fill the chamber. The process cycle details. The minimum quantity that the heat treater might require. Any external inspection or approvals needed. Post tempering any special treatment or handling charges.

RE: How much does stress relieving cost?

Arunmrao covered it - but I have some *ahm* experience in pricing HT services.

1 - When do you need it? Many HT's will expedite... for a fee.
2 - Time in the furnace and to a lesser extent... temperature.
3- Is it a common practice or is it an oddball. A 350F +/- 25F for 2hours is cycle is easy to fit in. A 705F +/- 10F for 12 hours is not.
4- Standard cycle means that you are likely a "fit-in" where an oddball means that you probably just purchased a furnace for the entire time of the cycle.
5- Specifications - HT's try to recoup their calibration charges on costly specifications that require additional furnace upkeep and calibration.
6- Alloy - many HT's will tie the cost of the heat treatment to the value of the material. I know it sounds crazy, but they feel they are assuming a greater risk.

So the answer is the same as in any metallurgical question... it depends!
