ROUND EDGE

ROUND EDGE

ROUND EDGE

(OP)
Hi to all the peaple of the forum.

I start working with abaqus, this is my first job and i don't have any experience.

My boss buy abaqus and give me many drawings to calculate. I have no problem with the input of the data.

I see a thing: if i submit to abaqus a geometry whit round the edge I obtein smaller stress respect to the same geometry without round edges.

Many drawings dont show this data...

In the true, I see the stress is less than rupture and the overstressed portion is small respect to the allowable section. So i think than all is ok and the part is apcetable.

If I am right, why Abaqus show me in the table also the maximum stress on this discontinuity?

Wenn stress is to high, can I ask to increse the round radius or this is madness?

Exist a system IN TO THE PROGRAM to hide this high, but local, stress to show to my boss, that this small red color are only numerical results and in the true the part is ok?

Thanks.

RE: ROUND EDGE

I don't understabd the geometry from the picture but it's wise not to to hide things as eventually you'll be caught. Hopefully your boss knows a lot more than you and he can perhaps justify the high levels of local stress instead of passing them off as some kind of numerical inaccuracy. Discuss the results with him to see what you should do.

Tank's you Corus. I spook with my boss, but i is a "experienced man" and not a "teorical man"
I know that a part is OK because in the past i do some mechanical test on similar part...

What i thinking now is " Exist a possibility to design a part and be sure, whitout a bigger safety factor?

If i arrived to 1.1 safety factor can trust me or not?

Unfortunatly i have not directly experience and the part that i draw are allways different...
