H.P Calculation ..?
H.P Calculation ..?
(OP)
Hi all:
What is the right formula to calculate Horse power requirement of the machine to make a cut ??
As I recall it goes something like Metal removal rate / Power constant or power factor of the material.
Some say, Metal removal rate * mf (Don't know what mf means and can't find a value on the web for mf either)
(Metal Removal Rate = Width of Cut * Depth * Feed Rate)
so what is the right formula.
My second question is what is the power constant or power factor or 'mf' of diff. materials such as Al, Steel, Ti etc .. is there a place that we could find that.
For example : For a 3 flute 2" Dia Carbide Shell mill to take a .250Deep cut engaging full radial width at a feed rate of 600ipm at 12000 rpm what is minimum H.P req. by the mahchine to take that cut without breaking the load meter on the machine??
Thank you all for your replies.

but I was hoping to find a table or chart somewhere that lists all the diff. types of materials and the unit horse power required to remove 1 cu/in of that specified material by a machine. or UnitH.P.
or a chart of all diff. material wihth the 'mf'
or a chart with materials and Power Factor ..
I see that all diff. calculators pull in diff. numbers..
Thank you again for your insight on this ...

That's what I was confused about .. all diff. types of calculators use diff. values .
